Steps
Position the Whirlybird
Place the whirlybird so that it overlaps the ridge cap on your metal roof.
Mark the Template
Use the whirlybird base as a template and mark a circle on the roof to indicate where the opening should be cut.
Cut the Opening
Using left and right tin snips, cut along the marked circle to create a clean opening.
Clear Existing Teks
Remove any teks from the ridge cap to ensure an even surface for installation.
Position the Whirlybird Base
Slide the whirlybird base under the ridge cap.
Bend the Base
Bend the sides of the whirlybird base over the sheeting ribs to conform to the profile of your roof.
Secure the Base
Use tek screws to secure the whirlybird base in place.
Adjust the Base to Fit
Cut and bend the whirlybird base as needed to align perfectly with the metal sheeting profile.
Waterproof the Installation
Apply roof and gutter silicone to prevent leaks. (Note: You can also install silicone underneath the base for extra leak prevention.)
Install the Whirlybird Tube
Place the whirlybird tube onto the secured base.
Level the Whirlybird
Use an A Level to ensure the whirlybird is perfectly level, and secure it further with teks to prevent movement.
Install the Top Whirlybird
Finally, complete the assembly by installing the top whirlybird.
Final Checks
- Ensure the whirlybird rotates smoothly.
- Inspect the installation for any gaps or loose fittings.
- Reapply silicone if necessary to maintain a watertight seal.
By following these steps, you'll have a securely installed whirlybird that aids ventilation on your metal roof.
